Between 2000 and 2010 the KSI’s in Merseyside reduced by a third from 759 to 511, the lowest number on record. Child KSI’s also reduced by more than 50% in this time to 79.
Large reductions were seen in the number of pedestrian (38%), motorcycle (55%) and car occupant (31%) casualty groups with only cyclist casualties showing a rise (21%).
Since 2010 however all casualty groups have seen rises, with the exception of car occupants which have seen a further 23% reduction since 2010 and a 58% reduction in the decade since 2003.
Pedal cyclists (36%) and motorcyclists (84%) have seen the largest rises with pedestrians also rising 12%
