Red Light Camera Sites

 

 

Red-Light Camera Site

There are currently twenty nine red light camera sites located across Merseyside. Within the Liverpool local authority there are nine, within the Wirral local authority there are eleven, within the Sefton local authority there are five, within the Knowsley local authority there are three and within the St Helens local authority there is one. These cameras are permanently housed at these locations due to evidence of a high number of traffic collisions resulting in casualties.

 

Explanation

 

It has now been possible to compare the number of collisions and casualties recorded at red light camera sites both before (April 2002 to March 2005) and after (April 2005 to March 2008) the Partnership’s formation.

 

Liverpool

 

At red light camera sites in the Liverpool local authority, there has been a 29% reduction in the total number of collisions recorded since the Partnership’s formation. 

 

The number of fatal casualties has increased by 100% from 0 to 1, whilst those seriously injured have decreased by 33% from 12 to 8. There have been no fatal child casualties, whilst those seriously injured have remained constant, and those slightly injured have decreased by 27% from 11 to 8 across the same time period.

 

Wirral

 

At red light camera sites in the Wirral local authority, there has been a 25% reduction in the total number of collisions recorded since the Partnership’s formation. 

 

The number of fatal casualties has decreased by 100% from 1 to 0, whilst those seriously injured have increased by 21% from 14 to 17. There have been no fatal child casualties, whilst those seriously injured have increased by 50% from 2 to 3, and those slightly injured have decreased by 17% from 12 to 10 across the same time period.

 

Sefton

 

At red light camera sites in the Sefton local authority, there has been a 32% reduction in the total number of collisions recorded since the Partnership’s formation. 

 

The have been no fatal casualties, whilst those seriously injured have decreased by 25% from 4 to 3. There have been no fatal child casualties, whilst those seriously injured have remained constant, and those slightly injured have increased by 33% from 9 to 12 across the same time period.

 

Knowsley

 

At red light camera sites in the Knowsley local authority, there has been a 41% reduction in the total number of collisions recorded since the Partnership’s formation. 

 

The number of fatal casualties has increased by 100% from 0 to 1, whilst those seriously injured have decreased by 50% from 2 to 1. There have been no fatal or seriously injured child casualties, and those slightly injured have decreased by 50% from 6 to 3 across the same time period.

 

St Helens

 

At red light camera sites in the St Helens local authority, there has been no change in the total number of collisions recorded since the Partnership’s formation. 

 

The have been no fatal casualties, whilst those seriously injured have decreased by 100% from 1 to 0. There have been no fatal or seriously injured child casualties, and those slightly injured have increased by 100% from 0 to 1 across the same time period.
