A serious road traffic accident on Heswall's Telegraph Road caused traffic chaos this morning. A silver mondeo left the road close to Tesco at 8.45am. The male driver aged in his 40s was described as in a critical condition at the scene. No one else was hurt in the incident. Police closed the whole of the A450 while they dealt with the incident.

A MAN who died after following a car crash in Heswall on Tuesday has been named as Paul Smith. Police were called to the scene in Telegraph Road at about 8.45am, following reports that a silver Ford Mondeo being driven along Telegraph Road, near to a Tesco Superstore, in the direction of Thursaston had left the carriageway and collided with a tree. Mr Smith, 48, who was from Heswall and was the driver of the vehicle, was taken to hospital for treatment where he later died. His eight-year-old son, who was a passenger in the car, received slight injuries. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident. Wirral Globe
A woman was injured in a car crash which blocked a busy road in Wirral causing rush hour tailbacks. The two vehicles, a blue Honda and black Peugeot collided at 5pm yesterday in Mount Road, Birkenhead. Police had to call for a tow vehicle to lift one of the cars clear of the road. Traffic was only allowed to flow in one direction until then causing delays for motorists. It was almost an hour before the road was properly open to traffic again. A stolen motorbike was burnt out by a gang after two men riding it were hurt when it crashed. The pair, aged 19 and 20, are being treated in hospital for injuries including a broken hip and broken left leg. Police, ambulances and a fire engine raced to to Waterpark Drive in Stockbridge Village at 3pm on Sunday as the police helicopter circled overhead. One local resident said the bike was trying to overtake a VW Passat but smashed into it as the car turned a corner. The driver of the VW Passat is now helping police with their inquires whilst the two men remain in hospital. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “Police can confirm that officers are investigating a road traffic collision on Sunday afternoon in Waterpark Drive at the junction with Round Hey. “Immediately after the collision a group of young men attended the scene, took the motorbike and it was found a short time later burnt out in a wooded area off Round Hey. “The bike has since been recovered and is thought to have been a stolen. A man is thought to have had a seizure and died at the wheel of a car carrying his eight-year-old son. The incident happened on Telegraph Road, Heswall, yesterday as the 48-year-old dad was driving towards Thurstaston. Emergency services arrived on scene, near the Tesco store, at 8.45am. The car had gone on to hit a lamp post. Witness Graham Lawrence, was on his way to work. The dad-of-two said: “The man was leaning across two front seats and he was unconscious. “I ran round to the rear door on the driver’s side but it was all jammed up, so I grabbed the door and wrenched it back, but I couldn’t get into the front of the car to help him. “The hardest part was when I was in the car and all I could hear was the son screaming.” The driver was pronounced dead at hospital but the young boy escaped with only slight injuries. The stretch of the busy main road through Heswall was closed until just after midday. Police are investigating.
AN 86-year-old man was cut from a car after a crash on Derby Lane, Old Swan. Firefighters rescued the pensioner by cutting the roof off his car which had collided with another vehicle on the pelican crossing just after 1pm yesterday. An off duty medic attended to the casualties. The pensioner was taken to hospital with suspected neck and back injuries while the other driver, a 35-year-old man, was treated for shock and burns. The road was closed for almost two hours while three fire and rescue crews worked to remove the wreckage of the Ford Fiesta and Mini Cooper and made the crash scene safe. Liverpool Echo
A hit and run driver left a man lying in the road with serious injuries. Police were called to Daneville Road, in Anfield, just before 4.45pm yesterday. They had received a report that a man had been hit by a black Peugeot car that had not stopped at the scene. The victim had suffered serious injuries to his lower body. He was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition was described as not threatening. The scene of the accident was cordoned off for investigation, house to house enquiries have been carried out and CCTV footage in the area is currently being examined.
